As we celebrate the opening of John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, take part in a gallery walkthrough with an MCASD Curator who will offer insider knowledge about the installation and process relating to the artist and the exhibition.
This program is free to Members, and free to non-members with Museum admission.
This event will be held at:
MCASD La Jolla
MCASD La Jolla Perspectives is a series that invites the public to take a seat at the table with artists, curators, and specialists in various fields of knowledge, and enrich discussions about works of art or exhibitions. Join emerging artists Jamilah Abdul-Sabur, Nina Preisendorfer, and Brian Zimmerman in a discussion about their own practices. Each artist has used written or graphic text in ways that relate to John Baldessari's use of language in his current exhibit.
This program falls on a free Third Thursday; tour the exhibition for free from 5–7 PM. This program is free for Members, UC Students and Faculty, $10 for non-members with Museum admission, and $5 for students with Museum admission.
This event will be held at:
MCASD La Jolla
This exhibition is a part of the The Pacific Standard Time program, featuring 13 artists and 100 sculptures, installations and drawings from 1962-1980.
Come experience "immersive environments by Bruce Nauman and Eric Orr; the disorienting and otherworldly glow of a Doug Wheeler light environment; a richly hued and spatially perplexing light piece from James Turrell’s Wedgework series; the subtle sculpting of space with natural light by Robert Irwin", and more.
Art in America recently featured an article on this exhibit.
*Exhibit at La Jolla MCASD will end January 22nd, but will continue until February 5th at the downtown location.*
"For many years, MCASD and the University of California, San Diego have partnered to bring contemporary artists to San Diego through the annual Russell Lecture program. The Russell Foundation was established in the will of Betty Russell, one of MCASD’s founding docents and a long-time supporter of UCSD. She specified that funds from the foundation should help “foster the appreciation and study of the modern visual arts and creativity of young artists” through support to the Museum and the University. This year’s Russell Lecturer is artist Isaac Julien, whose nine-screen video installation Ten Thousand Waves will be on view at MCASD Downtown."

There Goes the Neighborhood! is a four day event that not only hopes to shed light on issues of art and its relationship to a specific community, but to also re-examine, through artistic interventions, some aspects of the neighborhood that are sometimes overlooked. There Goes the Neighborhood! has been organized by a group of artists, architects, and interested parties as a way to initiate a conversation about the dynamics of the neighborhood. Our intention, and why you are now reading this, is to include as many people in the discussion as possible.
For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.theregoes.org.
