Background for the Scholarship
The Scholarships were created in 1980 to honor a young architect who died at the age of 33 from Hodgkin’s disease. They have been created to acknowledge the loss of a young fellow professional whose enthusiasm for architecture and design has been a continuing inspiration to all who knew him. Prior to his death, Steve won several design awards, including an AIA Award of Merit for the Jordan Residence. He died just six months after becoming a licensed Architect.
The Criteria for Awarding the Scholarship
The Scholarship is awarded to students in the third, fourth, fifth year or a Master’s degree program. It is intended to recognize excellent design ability and dedication.
The Scholarship may be presented to students who express a strong enthusiasm for design; not only architectural, but in all related areas such as graphics, interiors, landscaping and industrial design. The recipient will be attending one of these accredited Schools of Architecture:
Arizona State University
University of Arizona
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
California Polytechnic State University, Pomona
University of Southern California
Southern California Institute of Architecture
The Newschool of Architecture, San Diego
Woodbury University, San Diego

Applications and project examples must be received by the San Diego
Architectural Foundation by Wednesday, September 20, 2010.

Recipient’s Required Statement of Use for the Scholarship
Applicants must include with their submittal information a statement indicating how the Scholarship award will be applied towards their tuition.

A Required Response from the Recipient
If you are selected as a recipient of the Scholarship, you will be required to write a letter to the San Diego Architectural Foundation indicating the impact it has, or will have on your architectural education or future professional career.
Results of the Scholarship Committee’s Review
It is anticipated that the recipient of the Scholarship will be determined by (tba). Notification of the Committee's selection will be posted on the SDAF's website. The recipients will be notified anda check and a certificate of recognition will be forwarded to the recipient if all required information, as noted above, has been provided.
