Roy Drew Memorial Scholarship

Background for the ScholarshipRoyDrew.jpg
This $2,000 Scholarship was created to honor the ideals of Roy Drew FAIA. Roy was a pioneering modernist architect that practiced architecture for over 50 years and a founding principal of Architects Mosher Drew Watson Ferguson. Mr. Drew was the first San Diego Architect to be elected on design merit to the AIA college of Fellows, and was presented with the AIA’s lifetime achievement award. His public and private design projects are a part of the base of architecture that grew as San Diego began to grow in the mid 20th century.

His designs were a combination of creativity and practicality, and he was quoted as saying “I design in a manner that satisfies my client. In other words I don’t do the buildings for me."

Mr. Drew was an active member of many community-based organizations and served on many boards as well. He considered it his duty to offer time and effort back to the community. A scholarship to assist young professionals is a fitting tribute to Roy Drew.
