Join NewSchool of Architecture & Design for an interactive session featuring Dr. Karen Lee, Director of the Built Environment Program, NYC Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene. Dr. Lee will provide an overview of New York City’s Active Design Guidelines and the LEED Physical Activity Innovation Credit. Following the presentation, participants will engage in a hands-on workshop to apply health-based guidelines and tools to sample projects. Participants will also hear from Stephan Vance (SANDAG) and Chandra Krout (U.S. Green Building Council).

Newschool of Architecture & Design welcomes new Dean Chris Genik on October 4. Taking over for Gil Cooke, Genik is principal of the Santa Monica-based Daly Genik Architects.
This passing of the torch promises the start of an exciting new era for NewSchool, as Genik’s vision involves infusing its curriculum with “innovative and experimental practice.”
“Schools today are confronted by a profession that is in flux.” Genik stated in an interview with The Architect’s Newspaper; something that’s been on the minds and lips of many architectural educators of late. His first course of action to offset the instability? Encourage innovation.
We like him already.

More than 100 students graduated from NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) today, the largest class in its 30-year history. Commencement exercises were held this morning at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla.
Kicking the ceremony off was a Friday night open house at the school, showcasing the work of graduating seniors and master’s degree candidates. Read more »
